My review of Hermie: Who is in Charge Anyway

Posted 8/1/2010: Recently, I had the opportunity to review the DVD of "Hermie & Friends: Who's In Charge Anyway?" by Max Lucado. I don't have kids, but I have friends who have children and that's part of the reason I wanted to see what this DVD was like.

I liked the graphics of the Hermie DVD, which definitely is better than your average cartoon on TV. Much attention is paid to detail. I also liked the message that is getting across about how God has a plan for each person from before the start of their life.

There were a couple of things that I did not like. First, I felt like the story was slow moving and may not be for a kid older than toddler age. I kept waiting for the story to pick up a little, but the voices were soft and mellow, and I felt like I could put this video on to get kids to take a nap. Second, I found it kind of weird how God's voice comes out of the sky to talk to all of the characters. This was weird and I'm not sure would be helpful to kids wanting to learn to hear God's voice about their purpose in life.

All in all, I think parents who have enjoyed this set of videos by Max Lucado will find it in line with the rest of the series and will probably buy it. If you have older kids, I don't recommend it. But, younger kids might find it to be enjoyable and learn something about God and their purpose.
